| The much-awaited event, DocedgeKolkata was back with a bang. After an entire year, the entire Docedge family reunited for the week-long documentary festival.DocedgeKolkata is a platform for young and experienced filmmakers to explore international co-production opportunities for author-led independent documentaries through training and pitching workshops. |
REGISTRATIONS |
The enthusiasm with which the documentary film fraternity looks forward to DocedgeKolkata was evident right from 9.30 am. The queue was long but like always everybody was calm because that’s exactly what Docedge aims in celebrating- the co-operation within the family.There were about 50 registrations which include participants as well as observers. | |
INTRODUCTORY SESSION |
The introductory session for the participants and observers - was conducted by DocedgeKolkata’s Workshop and Training head Bishnu Dev Haldar, After a welcome address by DocedgeKokata Director Nilotpal Majumdar, Bishnu took the participants through the workshop brief. | |

At this session the entire programme for the coming week was explained. The delegates were also handed over their Docedge kits, which included their go-to material for the festival. It contained the brochures, schedules, food coupons and most importantly the entire programme schedule for DocedgeKokata 2014. |
OPENING CEREMONY |
| The opening ceremony was conducted by Sarmistha Sarker, Program Coordinator, Goethe Institut/ Max Mueller Bhavan Kolkata. All the participants, observers and guests were formally welcomed by the Goethe Institute, Kolkata, on behalf of Docedge.The guests were handed over bouquets as a sign of gratitude for all the time that they have taken out from their extremely busy schedules and of course, for travelling halfway around the world to be here. |

INAUGURAL FILM |
The film that set Docedge Kolkata, 2014 ball rolling was ‘Char… The No-Man’s Island’ directed by Mr. Sourav Sarangi. The film is about Rubel, a fourteen-year-old boy smuggling rice from India to Bangladesh. What makes the job even more complicated than dangerous is the presence of River Ganga acting as the barrier between the two lands. The film was followed by a Question and Answer Session, where Sourav Sarangi gave an insight into the film and answered questions from the audience. | |

PARTY! |
| Goethe Institute hosted the customary opening party, which also served as the ice-breaker between the old and the new members of the Docedge family. The evening also allowed the Tutors to catch with friends they haven’t met for a long tim. As the evening progressed and with the bubbly continued g, everyone let their hair down and just concentrated on having a good time before all the hard work in the coming few days. |
