It begins with Austin, Texas on 9th October 2013. Indie Meme, an Austin, Texas based startup is promoting independent films from India in the US. Their first package of films includes Miriam Chandy Menacherry’s award winning film, ‘The Rat Race’. Miriam tells a heartrendingly, humane story of young men that are trying to earn an honest livelihood in Mumbai, through the very unsavory task of killing rats while the city sleeps. Indie Meme is currently selling tickets to the film at the ever quirky and cool Alamo Drafthouse in Austin through the theater on demand platform, Tugg.com. They also plan to host small boutique screenings of the film in Universities, eclectic cafes and film clubs in Austin, as well as other cities in the US through a grassroots network of Indian Independent film lovers. The Rat Race first theatrical showing in Austin had 90 sold tickets and may next be screened in Houston. www.theratrace.co.in
