VS Kundu is the Director General of Films Division, India. Kundu is an IAS officer of the 1986 batch, Haryana Cadre. He has held this position since May 2012. Kundu is holds a Master’s degree in Physics and after completing his IAS, has worked in various departments of the government for almost 30 years. Kundu’s work with the Films Division has been much appreciated by the independent film community of India. Films Division, established in 1948, has been working towards maintain a record of the social, political and cultural imaginations and realities of the country on film. It has actively worked in encouraging and promoting a culture of filmmaking in India that respects individual vision and social commitment. The Films Division archive holds more than 8000 titles on documentaries, short films and animation films. Since 1990, Films Division has been organising the Mumbai International Film Festival for Documentary, Short and Animation Films (MIFF).
