Audrius Stonys | Film Director, Producer, Professor | Lithuania
Recipient of the Lithuanian National Culture and Art Award Audrius Stonys is one of the most prominent filmmakers from the Baltic region and professor at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre.
He holds a Doctor of Arts degree; from 1984 to 1989, he studied film directing at the Vilnius State Conservatorium and continued his education at the Jonas Mekas Film Anthology Archive in New York in 1989.
Stonys' films have garnered numerous international awards, including the Audience Award in Nyon, the Grand Prix in Split, and additional accolades in Bornholm, Florence, Gyor, Neu Brandenburg, Oberhausen, Bilbao, and San Francisco.
In 1992, his documentary film Earth of the Blind was recognised by the European Film Academy as the Best European Documentary Film of the Year and received the prestigious Felix Award.
From 2004 to 2005, he taught documentary filmmaking at the European Film College in Denmark and has conducted lectures and master classes in various cities, including Kolkata, São Paulo, Seoul, Tokyo, Berkeley, Stanford, Belgrade, Barcelona, San Francisco, Carpi Modena, and Paris. His films have been presented in Switzerland, France, Israel, the Czech Republic, Germany, the USA, Belgium, Spain, Turkey, Colombia, Uruguay, and Italy.
