Sheila Sawhny, Senior Manager, Film Independent, Global Media Makers. Sheila hails from Mumbai where she lived until migrating to New York City with her family as a teenager. Well-versed in many disciplines, her range of work extends from film to theater and the corporate world. She joined Film Independent in 2018 and manages all aspects of programming for Global Media Makers.

She oversees the annual six-week LA Residency, and collaborates with U.S. Embassies and Consulates to curate and manage International Workshops for filmmakers overseas. As Filmmaker Liaison for the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles, she handled full cycle talent services for all filmmakers. A founding member of Synchronicity Theatre Group NY, she has acted, written, directed and produced in NY, LA and Europe. Sheila is a winner of the Slamdance Feature Writing Competition and is the recipient of fellowships from Outfest Screenwriting Lab and DreamAgo’s Plume et Pellicule Screenwriting Lab in Switzerland.
