GARY BYUNG-SEOK KAM, Film Producer, South Korea
Gary Byung-Seok Kam is one of the acknowledged producers of Asia and has produced award-winning documentaries in Korea and worldwide. He holds BA in Sociology and Political Science and MA in Film & Visual Studies. Between 1995 and 2005, he had been producing and directing TV programs of different genres for the MBC, one of the biggest broadcasters in Korea.
Since 2006, Gary has been an independent filmmaker. Among the films he has been recently producing are ‘Planet Of Snail’ (Best Feature-length Documentary, IDFA 2011) by a multiple award-winning director Seung-Jun Yi, ‘Crossing Beyond’-The Official Olympic Film for 2018 Winter Olympics, ‘Shadow Flowers’ (Best Korean Documentary, DMZ Doc Fest 2019 / IDFA 2019 main competition), ‘In The Absence’ (Grand Jury Award, DOC NYC 2018 & AFI Docs 2019, 1st Prize for Digital Storytelling, World Press Photo Award 2019).
He actively works as documentary filmmaker, creative producer, storytelling consultant, editing consultant and lecturer. Currently he is producing documentaries in Philippines and Nepal, and also directing his first feature documentary ‘On High Ice’.
