Ryota Kotani has been working with NHK, the Japan Broadcasting Corporation, as a director of documentaries and news operations since 1986. NHK Enterprises INC. produces various types of TV Programs for the Japanese public TV. The documentaries they work on create experimental and adventurous projects with new technology as 4K or 8K programs of nature or sport, and projection mappings. Ryota has been noted for his urgent reporting, in around 60 minutes, of the 1984 assassination of Rajiv Gandhi and about the new political landscape with BJP. Ryota’s other work for NHK includes “European Picnic Plan against Iron Curtain" (1993), “Why Democracy”(2007) as a producer for International co-production, “Series of Indian Short Stories” (2007,2008), “New Chinese” including “Spiral Stairs”(awarded in Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival), “Japan; Love & Hate” (2009) by Sean McAlister (awarded in Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival), “Queen & I” (2009), and “The Keriya, the last catcher in desert” (2016) with Beijing TV in China.
