Rikiya Nishigaya joined NHK in 1995 after graduating from Osaka University as a program director. He has directed various programs, including factual documentaries and current affairs. After working on NHK’s long-running daily lifestyle program, he directed human-interest documentaries such as Project X and also produced investigative reports on emergency medical care during disasters for NHK’s flagship slot NHK Special.

As a producer, he has overseen the production of the popular variety program Chiko Will Scold You!, the human-interest documentary Family History and talk shows covering philosophy and investigative journalism.

Since 2024, he has been the Secretary General of the Japan Prize Secretariat.
